KTE's performance at Stony Brook University's Wang Center

Stony Brook University's Wang Center hosted a taiko workshop with Tetsuro, Kaoru and Shoji during the day on October 17th and then presented an evening Khoomei-Taiko Ensemble concert which was sold-out. KTE's Stony Brook concert was warmly received by music loving Long Islanders and the artists were greeted with a standing ovation after the show's finale.

The Khoomei-Taiko Ensemble Project History

After a 2007 concert cross-cultural concert in New York with fue flutist Kaoru Watanabe, taiko drummer Shoji Kameda, and a Mongolian khoomei singer Zulsar, that was organized by Teddy Yoshikami; Aziz Rahman, creator of the Festival of Mongolia, suggested creating a larger international group called the Khoomei-Taiko Ensemble which would include traditional folk musicians from Mongolia and Japan, as well as Shoji Kameda and Kaoru Watanabe from the U.S.

Aziz proposed a KTE tour of Mongolia, United States and Japan and suggested transporting taiko drums to Mongolia to start a taiko music school in Mongolia.

With support from our well-wishers we hope to carry out these goals of the Khoomei-Taiko Ensemble.
